Vintage Lapsang Souchong
Vintage Lapsang Souchong is a special version of traditional Lapsang Souchong, a black tea (Hong Cha) from Wuyi. For this extraordinary Lapsang Souchong were tea leaves of wild growing tea bushes used. The area around Tong Mu is very remote and can only be reached by long marches. The tea tastes very natural and wild. In order to preserv this unique taste the teamaster dissmissed the traditional fumigation of the tea leaves. This is usually used for traditionally produced Tarry Lapsang Souchong and is a unique feature of this tea variety.
The almost inaccessible tea growing area makes industrial production virtually impossible and so this tea is still harvested by hand. The manufacturer also produces out of conviction purely biological. This is also promoted by the government since Wuyi Shan is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and it should remain like this. The Wuyi mountain range stretches at an altitude between 200 and up to 2058m and have a mild climate with an average temperature of 21°C.

This is the unsmoked version of the classic Lapsang Souchong. Brewed 5g in 90ml gaiwan with 99C water for 30s.
First infusion is sweet and fruity. With a slight rose/floral hint that reminds me of Jin Jun Mei. Which is not surprising, as this tea comes from Tong Mu.
The second infusion brings out the aged character of the tea, with slightly more acidity, like cherries.
By the third infusion, the flavors are well mixed together and create a brilliant smooth liquor that’s simply a delight.
Overall, a great quality Lapsang.
