Roasted Organic black tea

Organic Japanese black tea with a strong roast from the mountains of Ukiha in Fukuoka Prefecture.

Through our friends at Amayama Organic Life, we discovered this boutique producer from Ukiha. The Higuchi family is now in its third generation of tea production and is fully dedicated to organic cultivation. In the mountains of Ukiha, they produce distinctive teas from different Japanese tea cultivars, each showing its own character and terroir.

This roasted Wakoucha is made from the Fujimidori cultivar. After being processed as black tea, the leaves are additionally roasted over strong heat. In a way, this tea could be described as a black tea Hojicha: the roast brings out warm, deep and aromatic notes, while the soft character of Japanese black tea remains in the background.

In the cup, this tea is round, aromatic and pleasantly calming. The roasted notes are reminiscent of roasted nuts, dark caramel, cocoa and warm wood. At the same time, a gentle black tea sweetness remains, giving the tea balance and depth. The bitterness is very low, the body is smooth and the finish is warm and lasting.

It is an ideal tea for quiet moments, especially in the afternoon or as a cosy tea for the evening. Even when slightly cooled, the tea remains pleasantly aromatic.
