Immerse yourself in the fascinating world of Kagoshima Organic Sencha – a tea that is truly unique. Made from the select leaves of the first harvest (Shincha) of the coveted Okumidori tea plants, this tea brings all the senses to life. Okumidori is a remarkable and promising tea cultivar that only reliably thrives south of Kyoto due to its sensitivity to frost.
exceptional flavors
Frost is rarely encountered in Kagoshima, but the numerous volcanoes on Kyushu carry their own dangers. Right now, Sakurajima, the majestic local mountain and landmark of Kagoshima, is extremely active. The volcanic ash enriches the soil with valuable nutrients that give the tea exceptional flavors. However, should the ash fall just before harvesting, the tea leaves must be thoroughly washed. Unfortunately, such a tea would not achieve the desired quality.
sweet Japanese tea
Fortunately, the Yamaguchi family was spared from the ash clouds this year and was therefore able to produce another top-quality product. A particularly harsh and long winter, followed by a jump in temperatures in the spring, contributed to the Japanese teas developing an exceptional sweetness this year.

Incidentally, we had the honor of visiting the Yamaguchi family and marveling at the entire production facility of their impressive organic farm. Of course, we were also allowed to admire the tea fields where “our” Okumidori tea plants are thriving magnificently, while we were comprehensively explained about the local characteristics.
