Tokoname Kyusu Teapot Takasuke

This unglazed Kyusu side-handle teapot from the renowned Takasuke Kiln  in Tokoname embodies the essence of refined Japanese craftsmanship. Fired in a reduction chamber, it features a dark, matte surface and a clean, understated form that lets the tea take center stage.

Each piece is created using the traditional Deisho-ikomi slip-casting method, where liquid clay is poured into plaster molds to shape the body, spout, handle, and lid with utmost precision. The parts are then carefully joined by hand, demanding a high level of skill and attention to detail. The result is a teapot with perfect proportions, a precisely fitting lid, and a finely curved ceramic strainer that ensures a smooth, balanced pour.

Under the guidance of Hiroshi Kita, the second-generation master of Takasuke Kiln, these teapots combine technical excellence with timeless simplicity. The unglazed clay develops a natural tone through its iron-rich composition and reduction firing. Thi is a hallmark of the Tokoname tradition, one of Japan’s Six Ancient Kilns celebrated for its exceptional teaware.

With a capacity of approx. 260 ml, this teapot is well-suited for green tea, oolong, and other refined teas.
