Gaoshan Tieguanyin

The Gaoshan Tieguanyin is grown on Lishan, making it a rare high-mountain take on a classic style. Harvested in spring and traditionally crafted, it is lightly oxidized and not roasted. The leaves open to a vivid green, and the liquor is bright and clear with an amber hue, reflecting the tea’s fresh, high-altitude character.

Aromatically, it shows the lively signature of a spring harvest: floral, fresh, and elegant. Notes of jasmine and magnolia stand out, supported by a cool, clean mountain sweetness. Depending on the water, a gentle, mouthwatering brightness can appear, adding lift and clarity. In the empty cup, the fragrance lingers with a soft sweetness that can suggest honey and fresh blossoms, without any toasted notes.

The finish is long and clean, leaving a fragrant aftertaste that invites slow, attentive drinking. Thanks to its careful, traditional processing, the tea can also be stored well while maintaining its aromatic clarity. With time, it tends to become rounder and more integrated, revealing additional nuance and depth.

Harvest: spring 2025
Aroma: floral notes, reminiscent of jasmine and magnolia
Oxidation: approx. 30%.
Roasting: none
Terroir: Lishan, Taiwan
Preparation: In this blog post you will find a description of how to brew Oolong tea in an optimal way.
Tip: The aroma opens up best when the tea isn’t consumed piping hot. Let it cool for a short moment in the cup before drinking.
This tea is also ideal for brewing in a large mug or a bigger teapot: it stays smooth without turning bitter and gives many flavorful infusions. You don’t need to decant the liquor – simply let the leaves settle to the bottom.
